Business without Borders: Being a border city, we recognize the importance of using our neighbouring country for opportunity, growth, and inspiration. Detroit and Windsor are very different yet complement each other very well. Another thing to consider is the astonishing statistic that 1 in 4 people in Windsor are immigrants. We can emphasize the power of diversity and culture within a city, a country, and the world. It is something to celebrate and to recognize especially in business settings, regardless as to where you are employed in the world.”
Roundtable 2018 Host School
The Odette School of Business was founded at the University of Windsor in 1953, by Dr. Gilbert Horne who later became the first ever Dean of Business. The first undergraduate class was composed of 16 people who graduated in 1955. The School was renamed the Edmond and Louis Odette School of Business in 2000 to honour the two business leaders and entrepreneurs.
Fast forward to 2017, there are approximately 1800 undergraduate and graduate students enrolled at the Odette School of Business, and it is now the proud Alma Mater of 1600 alumni, including; Richard Peddie, the former President and CEO of Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment; Sergio Marchionne, the CEO of Fiat Group; and Joe Mimran, the creator of Joe Fresh Style Clothing Line. This just names a few of the very notable alumni that have attended the Odette School of Business.
The goal of the students at the Odette School of Business is to quickly discover that education is not just about taking classes, rather to focus on your personal growth and career preparation. While the faculty at Odette take the lead on academics, our region’s business community plays a key role in helping our students learn beyond the classroom. A distinct part about Odette is how closely tied extracurricular events are to the Odette experience. We learn transferrable job skills and are provided with unique mentoring opportunities as soon as our Odette Experience ensues.
At the Odette School of Business, you will also find a dynamic social environment that celebrates and fosters diversity, it’s one of our greatest strengths! To put it simply, at Odette you don’t just learn about business, you experience it!
